BIG NEWS – Bear and Sookie are Engaged

Guess What??

My sweet Bear asked me to marry him on Thursday, June 4th, 2020. Here is our story ❤️

We are engaged!

How long have we known each other?

Joey and I met February 25th, 2019 through a dating app called Bumble. I preferred this dating app because the girl basically chooses the guy, if he has already chosen you, then it’s a “match”. We chatted throughout the entire day through the app and later that evening we met in real life at a local bar/restaurant, O’Brians. We both instantly felt something special and it was easy to be with one another. We just clicked.

Did I suspect his proposal?

We’ve been talking about getting married for a while. In fact, I’ve known since early on he was my human, the man I was meant to spend the rest of my life with. However, I had no clue he was going to pop the question that evening. Apparently he arranged to have all our friends there to celebrate his proposal in secrecy for two weeks.

He had decorations, this beautiful cake (FYI Publix cake is the BEST and it’s my favorite food), napkins, and even organized when he was going to pop the question (right after my first song – “To Sir with Love” by LuLu). After my song, it was his turn to sing. Prior to his song, the KJ (karaoke jockey) pulled me on stage and suggested we sing together.

All of a sudden, Bear knelt on one knee and said “This woman changed my life. She rose me from the dead, literally. My sweet Sookie Bee, good God, will you marry me?”.

My answer was, “Yes, of course, a thousand times.”

He gave me this beautiful 1920s hexagon and filigree set diamond. The ring is the most remarkable piece of jewelry ever.

After, he sang the song, “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin (our song which has so much meaning to us).

Later our friend Ralph Allocco sang “One in a million” for us while we danced ❤️. What a night! We celebrated with our friends for hours listening to everyone sing, take photos and eat cake.

Thank you Bear for the best night and all our friends who made it possible coming out. I’m forever grateful. 🐻💍🐝

When are we getting married?

We have set the date for 10-10-2020 for a simple sweet ceremony with our kids, and you know I’m making my wedding dress.

Our friend Robert made this video for us!

Inspiration! This is one of the corners in my off Inspiration!

This is one of the corners in my office (which is right off the living room). It was important for me that my “office” be more than a place I work. I like to have images ignite my thoughts!

These vintage patterns are just a handful I’ve got in my collection (which I will never part with). I’ve had them in my possession since 1990 when a lady from church knew I sewed. She said even though theses patterns were from the 1940s-1950s they still might inspire me. How true it was and still is today.

She saw potential in me and I was always grateful for her encouragement. Her name was Dorothy and we all called her Dot. She was a classy and cool lady and I’m so thankful she gifted her old sewing supplies to me.

What ignites your creativity?

Let’s play “Where’s the Sewing Bee?” That’s sort of like “Where’s Waldo” except you’re searching for my little Bee 🐝.

By the way, any guesses what’s the topic of this next video Joey and I are filming tomorrow?

Who taught you to sew? Was it your mom, grandma, Who taught you to sew?

Was it your mom, grandma, teacher, dad??

My story is pretty cool. My dads mom was an amazing tailor and his dad an upholsterer. They had an upholsterer business in the 1950s and she had a sewing space in the back making dresses for the ladies in town.

My dad was quite good too. He even spent some time working at a girdle factory.

My mom knew sewing basics but it was my father who taught her and she taught me and I’ve taught my daughter.

What’s your story?
